Ruth Entreats Boaz for Redemption

Ruth 3:1-18

3
Chapter 3
1 And her mother-in-law Naomi said to her, "My daughter, shall I not seek rest for you, which is good for you?" 2 Now, is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose girls you have been? Look, he is winnowing the threshing floor of the gate tonight. 3 Wash, anoint yourself, put on your garments, and go down to the threshing floor. Do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. 4 And it will be, when he lies down, that you know the place where he lies. Then you come and uncover his feet and lie down, and he will tell you what you do. 5 She said to her, "All that you say to me I will do." 6 She went down to the threshing floor and did everything her mother-in-law had commanded her. 7 And Boaz ate and drank, and his heart was merry, and he came to lie down at the end of the heap. And she came quietly, uncovered his feet, and lay down. 8 And it was in the middle of the night, and the man shuddered and uncovered himself. And behold, a woman lying at his feet. 9 He said, "Who are you?" She said, "I am Ruth, your maidservant. Spread the corner of your wings over your maidservant, for you are a redeemer." 10 And he said, "Blessed are you by the LORD, my daughter. You have shown better steadfast love in this last act than in the first, not going after the elite young men, whether poor or rich." 11 Now, my daughter, do not fear. All that you say, I will do for you, for all the gate of my people knows that you are a woman of power. 12 And now, indeed I am a kinsman-redeemer, but there is also a kinsman-redeemer closer than me. 13 Lodge tonight. And it will be—in the morning, if he redeems you, good; let him redeem. If he does not desire to redeem you, then I will redeem you, as the LORD lives. Lie down until the morning. 14 She lay at his feet until morning, and she arose before one person could recognize another. He said, “Let it not be known that a woman came to the threshing floor.” 15 He said, “Bring the veil you are wearing and hold it.” She held it, and he measured out six measures of barley and put it on her. Then he went to the city. 16 And she came to her mother-in-law. She said, "Who are you, my daughter?" And she told her all that the man had done for her. 17 And she said, "He gave me these six measures of barley, for he said to me, 'Do not go empty-handed to your mother-in-law.'" 18 She said, "Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter falls, for the man will not rest unless the matter is completed today."
