Ruth

Ruth is a Moabite woman who clung to her mother-in-law when Orpah said goodbye (Ruth 1:14). She tells her mother-in-law that she will go and lodge where she goes and lodges, and that her people and God will be Ruth's people and God (Ruth 1:16). The text calls her Naomi's daughter-in-law and says they came to Bethlehem from the territory of Moab (Ruth 1:22). Ruth asks Naomi for permission to glean (Ruth 2:2). Boaz took Ruth as his wife, and she bore a son (Ruth 4:13). Matthew names Obed as born from Ruth (Matthew 1:5).
