Judgment and National Downfall

Amos 6:8-14
8The Lord GOD has sworn by his soul—an utterance of the LORD God of Hosts: I am the one who loathes the pride of Jacob, and I hate his citadel; I will shut up the city and its fullness. 9And if ten men remain in one house, they shall die. 10His beloved shall lift him and burn him in order to bring bones out of the house. He shall say to the one who is in the flank of the house, 'Is anyone still with you?' The reply shall be, 'No more.' Then he shall say, 'Be silent, for the name of the LORD is not to be remembered.' 11For behold, the LORD commands and will strike the great house into fragments and the small house into breaches. 12Do horses run on rock? Does one plow with cattle? Yet you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood. 13You who rejoice over a thing that is not, who say, 'Have we not taken Karnaim for ourselves by our own strength?' 14For behold, I am raising up a nation against you, O house of Israel—an utterance of the LORD God of Hosts—and they shall oppress you from the entrance of Hamath as far as the torrent of the Arabah.
