Moses’ Intercession and God’s Glory

Exodus 33:12-23
12Moses said to the LORD, "See, you are saying to me, 'Bring up this people,' yet you have not made known to me whom you will send with me; and you said, 'I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my eyes.'" 13"Now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please make your ways known to me, so that I may know you, because I will find favor in your eyes; and see that this nation is your people." 14He said, "My face will go, and I will give you rest." 15He said to him, "If your face does not go, do not bring us up from here." 16"How then will it be known that I and your people have found favor in your eyes, unless you go with us? Then we, I and your people, will be distinguished from every people on the face of the earth." 17The LORD said to Moses, "I will also do this thing that you have spoken, because you have found favor in my eyes, and I know you by name." 18He said, "Please show me your glory." 19He said, "I will make all my goodness pass over your face, and I will call on the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." 20He said, "You are not able to see my face, for no man will see me and live." 21The LORD said, "Behold, a place is with me; you shall stand upon the rock." 22"When my glory passes by, I will set you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my palm until I pass by." 23"Then I will turn aside my palm, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen."
