1The heads of the fathers of the Levi approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes belonging to the sons of Israel.2They spoke to them in Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, "The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in and their pasture for our livestock."3The sons of Israel gave to the Levites from their inheritance, at the mouth of the LORD, these cities and their pasture.4The lot came out for the families of the Kohathite, and it came to the sons of Aaron the priest from the Levites: from the tribe of Judah, from the tribe of Simeon, and from the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities in the lot.5To the remaining sons of Kohath from the families of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh fell ten cities in the lot.6To the sons of Gershon from the families of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan fell thirteen cities in the lot.7To the sons of Merari according to their families, from the tribe of Reuben, from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun fell twelve cities.8The sons of Israel gave these cities and their pasture to the Levites, just as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses in the lot.9They gave these cities, which are named after them, from the tribe of the sons of Judah and from the tribe of the sons of Simeon.10The lot came first to the sons of Aaron from the families of the Kohathite from the sons of Levi.11They gave them Kiriath-arba, the father of Anak (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah, and its pasture around it.12They gave the field of the city and its villages to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession.13To the sons of Aaron the priest they gave the city of refuge for the manslayer: Hebron and its pasture, and Libnah and its pasture.14They also gave Jattir and its pasture, and Eshtemoa and its pasture.15They also gave Holon and its pasture, and Debir and its pasture.16And Ain and its pasture, and Juttah and its pasture, and Beth-shemesh and its pasture—nine cities from these two tribes.17From the tribe of Benjamin they gave Gibeon and its pasture, and Geba and its pasture.18They also gave Anathoth and its pasture, and Almon and its pasture—four cities.19All the cities of the sons of Aaron the priests were thirteen cities with their pasture.20To the remaining families of the sons of Kohath the Levite from the sons of Kohath, the cities of their lot came from the tribe of Ephraim.21They gave them the city of refuge for the manslayer: Shechem and its pasture in the hill country of Ephraim, and Gezer and its pasture.22And Kibzaim and its pasture, and Beth-horon and its pasture—four cities.23From the tribe of Dan they gave Eltekeh and its pasture, and Gibbethon and its pasture.24And Aijalon and its pasture, and Gath-rimmon and its pasture—four cities.25From the half-tribe of Manasseh they gave Taanach and its pasture, and Gath-rimmon and its pasture—two cities.26All the cities were ten with their pasture for the remaining families of the sons of Kohath.27To the sons of Gershon from the families of the Levites from the half-tribe of Manasseh they gave the city of refuge for the manslayer: Golan in Bashan and its pasture, and Beeshterah and its pasture—two cities.28From the tribe of Issachar they gave Kishion and its pasture, and Daberath and its pasture.29And Jarmuth and its pasture, and En-gannim and its pasture—four cities.30From the tribe of Asher they gave Mishal and its pasture, and Abdon and its pasture.31They also gave Helkath and its pasture, and Rehob and its pasture—four cities.32From the tribe of Naphtali they gave the city of refuge for the manslayer: Kedesh in Galilee and its pasture, Hammoth-dor and its pasture, and Kartan and its pasture—three cities.33All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their pasture.34To the remaining families of the sons of Merari the Levite from the tribe of Zebulun they gave Jokneam and its pasture, and Kartah and its pasture.35They also gave Dimnah and its pasture, and Nahalol and its pasture—four cities.36From the tribe of Reuben they gave Bezer and its pasture, and Jahaz and its pasture.37They also gave Kedemoth and its pasture, and Mephaath and its pasture—four cities.38From the tribe of Gad they gave the city of refuge for the manslayer: Ramoth in Ramoth-gilead and Gilead and its pasture, and Mahanaim and its pasture.39They also gave Heshbon and its pasture, and Jazer and its pasture—four cities in all.40All the cities given to the sons of Merari according to their families, the remaining Levite families, and their lot were twelve cities.41All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the sons of Israel were forty-eight cities with their pasture.42These cities shall be, each city with its pasture around it; so for all these cities.43The LORD gave to Israel all the land which he had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled in it.44The LORD gave them rest on every side, according to all that he had sworn to their fathers; not one of their enemies stood before them, for the LORD gave all their enemies into their hand.45Not one word failed of all the good word which the LORD had spoken to the house of Israel; all came to pass.
