7They gave silver to the hewers and the artificers, and food, drink, and oil to the Sidonians and the Tyrians, to bring cedar wood from Lebanon to the sea at Joppa, according to the permission of Cyrus king of Persia granted to them.8In the second year after their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers the priests, the Levites, and all who had come from the captivity to Jerusalem began, and they appointed the Levites from twenty years of age and upward to conduct the work on the house of the LORD.9Jeshua, his sons, and his brothers, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, stood as one to conduct the doers of the work on the house of God; the sons of Henadad, their sons, and their brothers the Levites.10The builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, and the priests with trumpets and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals were stationed to praise the LORD according to the directions of David king of Israel.11They sang in praise and thanksgiving to the LORD, for he is good, for his kindness endures forever upon Israel; and all the people shouted a great shout in praise to the LORD because the house of the LORD had been founded.12Many of the priests, the Levites, and the heads of the fathers, the elders who had seen the first house when its foundation was laid, wept with a great voice when they saw this house before their eyes; yet many shouted with a shout in joy to lift up a voice.13The people could not recognize the sound of the shout of joy from the sound of the weeping of the people, for the people were shouting a great shout, and the sound was heard as far as a distant place.
