Prophecy of Judgment on Eli's House

1 Samuel 2:27-36

Chapter 2
27 And a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "This is what the LORD says: I revealed myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in the house of Pharaoh. 28 And I chose him from all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up on my altars, to burn incense, to bear the ephod before me. And I give to the house of your father all the fire offerings of the sons of Israel. 29 Why do you kick at my sacrifices and my offerings, which I commanded at my dwelling place, and you honor your sons more than me, to fatten yourselves from the first portion of every offering of my people Israel? 30 Therefore the LORD God of Israel declares: 'I said, your house and the house of your father will walk before me forever.' But now the LORD declares: Far be it from me! For those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me will be lightly esteemed. 31 Look, days are coming when I will cut off your seed and the seed of your father's house from being elders in your house. 32 And you will see an adversary in every place where he does good to Israel, and there will not be an elder in your house all the days. 33 And the man of yours—I will not cut off from my altar, to consume your eyes and sadden your nephesh; and all the increase of your house will die as men. 34 And this will be the sign for you, which will come upon your two sons, upon Hophni and Phinehas: the two of them will die on one day. 35 And I will raise up for myself a faithful priest; he will do as is in my heart and my soul, and I will build him a faithful house, and he will walk before my Messiah all the days. 36 And everyone remaining in your house will come to bow before him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and he will say, "Please attach me to one of the priests so I can eat a morsel of bread."
