Caleb's Claim and Inheritance of Hebron

Joshua 14:6-15

14
Chapter 14
6 The sons of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know the word that the LORD spoke to Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning you at Kadesh-barnea." 7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him back word just as my heart dictated. 8 And my brothers who went up with me—the angel made the heart of the people turn away—but I fulfilled my duty to the LORD my God. 9 And Moses swore on that day, saying, "The land on which your foot has trodden will surely be an inheritance for you and your sons forever, because you have fully followed the LORD my God." 10 And now, look, the LORD has kept me alive just as he said, these forty-five years, since the LORD spoke this word to Moses, when Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, look, I am today eighty-five years old. 11 I am still as strong today as on the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so my strength is now—for warfare and to go out and come in. 12 And now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that the Anakim are there and cities are there, great and fortified; perhaps the LORD will be with me, and I will dispossess them just as the LORD spoke. 13 And Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. 14 Therefore Hebron belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite as an inheritance to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel. 15 And the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-Arba, the great man among the Anakim. And the land was quiet from warfare.
