A Treaty with Abimelech

Genesis 21:22-34

21
Chapter 21
22 At that time Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army said to Abraham, "God is with you in all that you do." 23 Now swear to me by God: If you deceive me or my offspring or my descendants—as the steadfast love that I have shown you, you shall show me and the land in which you have sojourned." 24 Abraham said, "I will swear." 25 And Abraham rebuked Abimelech about the matter of the well of water that Abimelech's servants had seized. 26 Abimelech said, "I did not know who did this thing. You did not tell me, and I did not hear about it until today." 27 And Abraham took sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant. 28 And Abraham set the seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. 29 And Abimelech said to Abraham, "What are these seven ewe lambs that you have set by themselves?" 30 And he said, "Because you will take seven ewe lambs from my hand, so that it will be a witness for me that I dug this well." 31 Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because there the two of them swore an oath. 32 And they made a covenant at Beersheba. And Abimelech rose with Phicol the commander of his army, and they returned to the land of the Philistines. 33 And he planted a tamarisk in Beersheba and called on the name of the LORD, the Eternal God, there. 34 And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines many days.
