Chapter 31
To the director. A psalm. Of David. 1 In you, O LORD, I have trusted; let me not be ashamed forever. In your righteousness deliver me. 2 Incline your ear to me; hasten, deliver me. Be to me a rock of refuge, a house of strongholds to save me. 3 For you are my rock and my stronghold, and for the sake of your name you will guide me and lead me. 4 Pull me out from this net they hid for me, for you are my Rock and my fortress. You lead me and guide me for the sake of your Name. 5 Into your hand I entrust my spirit; you have redeemed me, LORD, God of truth. 6 I have hated those who observe worthless idols, but I have trusted in the LORD. 7 I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction. You have known the distresses of my soul. 8 And you have not given me over into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a spacious place. 9 Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am distressed; my eye wastes away in anger, my soul and my belly. 10 For my life is consumed in grief, and my years in groaning; my strength fails in my poverty, and my bones waste away. 11 Because of all my pursuers, I was a reproach to my neighbors exceedingly and a dread to my acquaintances; those who saw me outside fled from me. 12 I am forgotten like a dead man from the heart; I have been like a lost vessel. 13 For I have heard the whispering of many, terror on all sides. As they gathered together against me, they plotted to take my life. 14 But I have trusted in you, the LORD; I have said, "You are my God." 15 In your hand are my times; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and my pursuers. 16 Make your face shine upon your servant; save me in your mercy. 17 LORD, do not let me be ashamed, for I have called upon you; let the wicked be ashamed, let them be silent in Sheol. 18 Let lying lips be silenced—those that speak against the righteous arrogantly with contempt. 19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you have worked for those who take refuge in you before the sons of men! 20 You hide them in the shelter of your face from the conspiracies of man; you store them in a hut from the strife of tongues. 21 Blessed be the LORD, for he has shown wonderful his loyal love to me in a besieged city. 22 And I said in my haste, "I am cut off from before your eyes." Yet you heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to you. 23 Love the LORD, all his faithful ones; the faithful preserve the LORD, and he repays in full upon those who act arrogantly with violence. 24 Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD.
