The Conversion of Saul

Acts 9:1-19

Chapter 9
1 But Paul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, approached the high priest. 2 He asked him for letters to Damascus to the synagogues, so that if he should find any of the Way there, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3 And as he was going, it happened that he drew near to Damascus. Suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" 5 But he said, “Who are you, Lord?” He said, “I am Jesus, whom you persecute.” 6 But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you must do. 7 But the men who were accompanying him had stood speechless, hearing the voice indeed but seeing no one. 8 And Paul rose from the ground, but though his eyes were open, he saw nothing. But leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus. 9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank. 10 There was a certain disciple in Damascus named Ananias, and the Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias." And he said, "Here I am, Lord." 11 But the Lord said to him: "Rise, go to the street called Straight, and seek in the house of Judas—for Saul of Tarsus—for behold, he prays." 12 And he saw a man named Ananias entering in a vision and laying hands on him so that he might regain sight. 13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how many evil things he has done to your holy ones in Jerusalem.” 14 And here he has authority from the high priests to bind all those calling on your name. 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, because this one is a chosen vessel to me to bear my name before nations as well as kings and sons of Israel.” 16 For I will show him as many things as he must suffer for the sake of my name. 17 And Ananias went away and entered the house, and laying his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord has sent me, Jesus the one who appeared to you on the way by which you were going, so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." 18 And immediately there fell away from his eyes something like scales, and he looked up and, having risen, was baptized. 19 And after taking food, he was strengthened. He spent some days with the disciples in Damascus.
