Luke 15:11-32

Chapter 15
11 But he said, “A certain man had two sons.” 12 And the younger of them said to the father, "Father, give me the portion of the property that falls to me." And he divided the living to them. 13 And after not many days, having gathered everything together, the younger son departed to a distant country, and there he squandered his substance living wastefully. 14 But after he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and clung to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the carob pods that the pigs were eating, and no one gave any to him. 17 But when he came to himself, he said, “How many hired servants of my father have more than enough bread, but I am perishing here with hunger!” 18 I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.” 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants. 20 And he rose and came to his own father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, ran, fell upon his neck, and kissed him. 21 But the son said to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.” 22 But the father said to his slaves, "Quickly bring the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet." 23 and bring the fatted calf, sacrifice it, and let us eat and rejoice, 24 because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. And they began to celebrate. 25 Now his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 and having called one of the servants, he inquired what these things might be. 27 But he said to him, “Your brother has come, and your father has sacrificed the fatted calf, because he has received him back healthy.” 28 But he became angry and did not want to go in. So his father went out and began pleading with him. 29 But he answered and said to his father: "Look, these many years I have served you, and never have I transgressed your commandment. Yet to me you never gave a young goat so that I might rejoice with my friends." 30 But when this son of yours who devoured your whole life with prostitutes came, you sacrificed the fattened calf to him. 31 But he said to him, “Child, you are always with me, and all my things are yours.” 32 But we had to rejoice and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and lived, was lost and was found.
