Proverbs 28:1-28

Chapter 28
1 The wicked fled, but no pursuer. And the righteous are confident like a lion. 2 By the transgression of the land its rulers are many, and by a man of understanding he will in this way lengthen days. 3 A wicked fighting man and oppression of the poor—a sweeping rain with no bread. 4 Those who abandon the Torah praise the wicked, and those who keep the Torah strive with them. 5 Men of evil do not understand justice, but seekers of the LORD understand all. 6 Better a poor man walking in his integrity than a twisted one of ways who is rich. 7 A keeper of Torah is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons shames his father. 8 One who multiplies his wealth by usury and increase—to the gracious ones of the poor it will gather. 9 One who turns away his ear from hearing the Torah—even his prayer is an abomination. 10 One who misleads the upright in an evil way—in his corrupting he will fall, and the blameless will inherit good. 11 A rich man is wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who is discerning will investigate him. 12 In the exulting of the righteous, much glory abounds, but in the rising of the wicked, a man searches. 13 One who covers his transgressions will not succeed, but one who confesses and abandons them will be shown mercy. 14 Blessed is the one who fears continually, and the one who hardens his heart will fall into evil. 15 A roaring lion and a prowling bear: a wicked one ruling over poor people. 16 A royal leader lacking wisdom and with much oppression—he who hates greed will lengthen days. 17 A human who oppresses the blood of the life force until the pit flees; to God they will not support him. 18 He who walks blamelessly will be saved, but he who is devious in his ways will fall in one. 19 He who serves his land will be sated with bread, and he who pursues empties will be sated with poverty. 20 A man of faithfulnesses is a chief of blessings, and one hastening to enrich will not be cleared. 21 To show partiality is not good, and for a piece of bread a man will transgress. 22 He is hasty for wealth, a man of evil eye; he does not know that want will come upon him. 23 He who rebukes a person will find favor afterward more than one who smooths the tongue. 24 One who robs his father and his mother and says, "There is no transgression"—he is a companion to a man of corruption. 25 A wide soul stirs up strife, but one trusting in the LORD will be made fat. 26 He who trusts in his heart is a fool, and he who walks in wisdom will escape. 27 One who gives to the poor has no lack, and those who hide their eyes—many curses. 28 When the wicked rise, a person hides, but when they perish the righteous multiply.
