Proverbs 5:1-23

Chapter 5
1 My son, give ear to my wisdom; incline your ear to my understanding. 2 They will guard the purposes and knowledge of your lips to keep them. 3 For honey drips from the lips of a stranger, and her palate is smoother than oil. 4 And her end is bitter oppression, sharp as a sword of mouths. 5 Her feet descend to Death, Sheol; her steps will support themselves. 6 The way of life lest you make level, they sway from her circles; you do not know. 7 And now, sons, hear me and do not turn aside from the words of my mouth. 8 Keep far away from her; do not approach the entrance of her house. 9 lest you give your splendor to others and your years to a cruel one 10 lest foreigners be filled with your strength and your labors in a foreigner's house. 11 And you will groan in your end times, with the consuming of your flesh and your remnant. 12 And you will say, "How I hated discipline, and my heart despised rebuke!" 13 And I did not hear the voice of my teachers, nor did I incline my ear to my instructors. 14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the assembly and congregation. 15 Drink water from your cistern and flows from the midst of your belly. 16 They will be dispersed from your springs outside in the broad places, channels of waters. 17 Let them be for you alone and not for foreigners with you. 18 May your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth. 19 A doe of loves and a gazelle of grace—may her breasts shepherd you at all times; err in her love perpetually. 20 And why, my son, will you go astray with a strange woman and embrace the bosom of a foreign woman? 21 For before the eyes of the LORD are the ways of a man, and he levels all his paths. 22 His iniquities will capture him, the wicked one, and in the cords of his sin he will be held. 23 He will die for lack of discipline, and in the abundance of his folly he will go astray.
