Psalm 140:1-13

Chapter 140
To the director. A psalm. Of David. 1 Deliver me, O LORD, from an evil man, from a man of violence—guard me. 2 They devise evils in their hearts; all day they stir up wars. 3 They sharpen their tongue like a serpent; the venom of asps is under their lips. Selah. 4 Keep me safe, LORD, from the hand of the wicked, from the man of violence who guards me, who have planned to thrust aside my steps. 5 The proud have hidden a trap for me and cords. They have spread a net by the track; they have set snares for me. 6 I said to the LORD, "My God, hear—you, the LORD—the voice of my supplications." 7 O LORD my Lord, strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of weapons. 8 Do not grant, LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not fulfill his plot. Let it not be exalted. Selah. 9 The harm those surrounding me plot, let their own lips cover them. Selah 10 Let burning coals fall upon them; let him hurl them into fiery whirlwinds—they shall not rise. 11 A man of the tongue—Bel shall not be established in the earth; a man of violence—evil shall hunt him with sling-throwers. 12 I know that the LORD will do justice for the poor, judgment for the upright. 13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name; the upright will dwell before your face.
