Chapter 9
1 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; those dwelling in the land of deep shadow have a shining light upon them. 2 You have multiplied the nation for him; you have increased the joy. They rejoice before you like the joy of harvest, as they exult over their share of spoil. 3 For you have taken up his burden and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of the one pressing him—you have shattered it like a day of Midian. 4 For every boot of the trampling warrior and cloak rolled in blood will be for burning, food of fire. 5 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us, and the government will be upon his shoulder. One calls his name Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 6 For the increase of the government and for peace there will be no end upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to establish it and to support it with justice and with righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. 7 A word that the LORD sent against Jacob, and it fell on Israel.
