Israel Accused and Promised Restoration

Hosea 2:2-23

2
Chapter 2
2 And the sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint for themselves one head, and they will go up from the land, for great is the day of Jezreel. 3 Say to your brother Ammi and to your sister Raḥamah. 4 Dispute with your mother! Dispute! For she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. And let her remove her prostitutions from her face and her adulteries from between her breasts. 5 lest I strip her nakedness and expose her like the day of her being born and set her like the wilderness and she drink like the land of parchedness and I cause her to die by thirst. 6 And on her sons I will not have compassion, for they are sons of whoredoms. 7 For their mother has prostituted; she who bore them has shamed. For she said, "I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink." 8 Therefore behold, I am hedging your way with thorns, and I have hedged its hedge, and her paths you will not find. 9 And she will pursue her lovers but will not overtake them, and she will seek them but will not find them. And she said, "Let me go and return to my first husband, for it was better for me then than now." 10 And she did not know that I gave her the grain and the new wine and the olive oil, and I multiplied silver for her, and gold they made into Baal. 11 Therefore I will return and take my grain in its time and my new wine in its appointed time, and I will recover my wool and my flax to cover her nakedness. 12 And now I will reveal her carcass to the eyes of her lovers, and no man will deliver her from my hand. 13 And I will cause all her joy, her festivals, her new moons, and her Sabbaths—all her appointed times—to cease. 14 And I will set a vine and a fig tree which she said, "I gave them to me which they gave to me from my lovers," and I will set them as a forest and you will eat the wild animal of the field. 15 And I will visit upon her the days of the Baals, which she made offerings of incense to them and adorned a nose-ring and her unleavened bread and went after her lovers, and I will cause forgetfulness, declares the LORD. 16 Therefore, behold, I will seduce her and lead her into the wilderness, and I will speak to her heart. 17 And I will give her her vineyards from there and the Valley of Achor as a door of hope, and she answered there like the days of her youth and like the day of her going up from the land of Egypt. 18 And it will be on that day, says the LORD, you will call me my man, and you will not call me any longer my Baal. 19 And I will remove the names of the baals from her mouth, and they will not mention them anymore by their name. 20 And I will make a covenant for them on that day with the living creatures of the field and with the birds of the heavens and the creeping things of the ground. And I will break bow and sword and warfare from upon the land, and I will make them lie down securely. 21 And I will betroth you to me forever, and I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice and in steadfast love and in compassions. 22 And I will betroth you to me in faithfulness, and you will know the LORD. 23 And it will be on that day, I will answer, says the LORD; I will answer the heavens and they will answer the earth.
