Chapter 21
1 And the heads of the fathers of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel. 2 And they spoke to them in Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, “The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in and their pasturelands for our livestock.” 3 And the sons of Israel gave to the Levites from their inheritance, at the mouth of the LORD, these cities and their pasturelands. 4 The lot came out for the clan of the Kohathites, and it was for the sons of Aaron the priest from the Levites, from the tribe of Judah, from the tribe of Simeon, and from the tribe of Benjamin—thirteen cities by lot. 5 And to the remaining sons of Kohath, from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim and from the tribe of Dan and from half the tribe of Manasseh, ten cities by lot. 6 And to the sons of Gershon, from the clans of the tribe of Issachar and from the tribe of Asher and from the tribe of Naphtali and from half the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities by lot. 7 To the sons of Merari according to their clans: from the tribe of Reuben, from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. 8 And the sons of Israel gave the Levites these cities with their pasturelands, just as the LORD commanded through Moses by lot. 9 From the tribe of the sons of Judah and from the tribe of the sons of Simeon they gave these cities, which he called by name. 10 This fell to the sons of Aaron from the clans of the Kohathites from the sons of Levi, for theirs was the first lot. 11 And they gave to them Kiriath-arba, father of the Anok—that is, Hebron—in the hill country of Judah, and its pastureland around it. 12 And they gave the fields of the city and its courts to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his holding. 13 They gave to the sons of Aaron the priest the city of refuge for the manslayer, Hebron and its pastureland, and Libnah and its pastureland. 14 Jattir with its pastureland, and Eshtemoa with its pastureland. 15 and Holon with its pastureland and Debir with its pastureland 16 And Ain and its pastureland, Jattir and its pastureland, Beth-shemesh and its pastureland—nine cities from these two tribes. 17 And from the tribe of Benjamin: Gibeon and its pastureland, Geba and its pastureland. 18 Anathoth and its pastureland, Almon and its pastureland—four cities. 19 All the cities of the sons of Aaron the priests: thirteen cities and their pasturelands. 20 And to the families of the sons of Kohath, the remaining Levites from the sons of Kohath, these were their lot cities from the tribe of Ephraim. 21 And they gave them the city of refuge for the manslayer, Shechem with its pastureland, in the mountains of Ephraim, and Gezer with its pastureland. 22 and Kibzaim with its pastureland, and Beth-horon with its pastureland—four cities. 23 And from the tribe of Dan: Elteke and its pastureland, Gibbethon and its pastureland. 24 Aijalon and its pastureland, Gath-rimmon and its pastureland: four cities. 25 And from the half-tribe of Manasseh: Taanach and its pastureland, and Gath-rimmon and its pastureland—two cities. 26 All the cities—ten and their open spaces—to the families of the remaining sons of Kohath. 27 And to the sons of Gershon from the clan of the Levites from half the tribe of Manasseh: the city of refuge for deliberate murder—Golan in Bashan and its pasturelands, and Beeshterah and its pasturelands—two cities. 28 and from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion and its pastureland, Daberath and its pastureland. 29 Jarmuth and its pastureland, En Gannim and its pastureland—four cities. 30 And from the tribe of Asher: Mashal with its pastureland, Abdon with its pastureland. 31 Helkath and its pastureland, Rehob and its pastureland: four cities. 32 From the tribe of Naphtali: the city of refuge for the murderer, Kedesh in Galilee with its pastureland, Hammath-dor with its pastureland, and Kartan with its pastureland—three cities. 33 All the cities of the Gershonites for their families: thirteen cities and their pasturelands. 34 And to the families of the sons of Merari, the remaining Levites, from the tribe of Zebulun: Jokneam with its pastureland, Kartah with its pastureland. 35 Dimnah with its pastureland, Nahalel with its pastureland—four cities. 36 And from the tribe of Reuben: Bezer and its pastureland, and Jahzah and its pastureland. 37 Kedemoth and its pasturelands, Mephaath and its pasturelands—four cities. 38 And from the tribe of Gad, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Ramoth in Gilead and its pastureland, and Machanaim and its pastureland. 39 Heshbon and its pastureland, Jazer and its pastureland—all the cities, four. 40 All the cities for the sons of Merari according to their families—the remaining ones from the families of the Levites—and their lot was twelve cities. 41 All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the sons of Israel: forty-eight cities and their pasturelands. 42 These cities and their pasturelands around them were for all these cities. 43 And the LORD gave Israel all the land that he had sworn to give to their fathers, and they possessed it and dwelt in it. 44 And the LORD gave them rest all around, according to all that he swore to their fathers, and no man stood before them from all their enemies; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hand. 45 Not one word failed from all the good words that the LORD spoke to the house of Israel; all came to pass.
