Micah's Idol and the Levite Priest

Judges 17:1-13

Chapter 17
1 There was a man from Mount Ephraim whose name was Micaiah. 2 And he said to his mother, "The thousand and hundred pieces of silver that were taken from me, about which you uttered a curse in my hearing when you said, 'Behold, the silver is with me; I took it'—may my son be blessed by the LORD," his mother said. 3 And he returned the eleven hundred pieces of silver to his mother, and his mother said, "Holy, holy—I have consecrated the silver to the LORD from my hand to my son to make a cultic idol and a molten image, and now I will return it to you." 4 He restored the silver to his mother, and his mother took two hundred silver and gave it to the silversmith, and he made it a carved image and a molten image, and it was in the house of Micaiah. 5 And the man Micaiah had a house of God, and he made an ephod and teraphim, and he filled the hand of one of his sons, and he became his priest. 6 In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes. 7 And there was a young man from Bethlehem in Judah, from the family of Judah, and he was a Levite, and he sojourned there. 8 The man went from the City of Bread, House of Judah, to sojourn in the land of Asher, and he came to the Hill Country of Ephraim, to the House of Micah, to make his way. 9 Micaiah said to him, "Where do you come from?" He said to him, "I am a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah, and I am going to sojourn in whatever place I find." 10 And Micaiah said to him, "Stay with me, and be to me as a father and as a priest, and I will give you ten pieces of silver a day, and I will arrange garments and your sustenance." And the Levite went. 11 The Levite consented to dwell with the man, and the boy was to him like one of his sons. 12 And Micah filled the hand of the Levite, and the young man became to him a priest, and he was in the house of Micah. 13 And he—Micaiah—said, "Now I know that the LORD will do good to me, because a Levite has become my priest."
