Chapter 7
14 And the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is heavy; he refuses to let the people go." 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning. Behold, he goes out to the water. You shall stand to meet him on the bank of the Nile, and you shall take in your hand the staff that turned into a serpent. 16 And you shall say to him, "The LORD God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, 'Send out my people, that they may serve me in the wilderness.' And behold, you have not listened until now." 17 The LORD says: By this you shall know that I am the LORD. Behold, I will strike with the staff that is in my hand on the waters of the Nile, and they shall be turned into blood. 18 The fish in the Nile will die, and they will stink. The Nile will be loathsome to the people of Egypt to drink water from it. 19 And the LORD said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their Nile canals, and over their pools, and over every gathering of their waters, and they shall become blood. And there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, and in the woods and in the stones.'" 20 And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the LORD commanded. And he lifted the staff and struck the waters that were in the Nile before Pharaoh's eyes and before the eyes of his servants, and all the waters that were in the Nile turned to blood. 21 And the fish that were in the river died, and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink water from the river, and the blood was throughout all the land of Egypt. 22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their secret arts, and Pharaoh's heart was strengthened, and he did not listen to them, just as the LORD had spoken. 23 And he turned and went to his house, and he did not set his heart on this either. 24 And they dug all around Egypt by the waters of the Nile to drink, for they could not drink from the waters of the Nile.
