Peter's Vision and the Messengers from Cornelius

Acts 10:9-23

Chapter 10
9 But the next day, as they were traveling and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about the sixth hour. 10 He became very hungry and wanted some food. But while it was being prepared, he fell into a divine amazement. 11 and he sees the heaven opened and a certain vessel descending, like a great sheet being let down to the earth by four corners, 12 in which there were all the four-footed animals and reptiles of the earth and birds of heaven. 13 A voice came to him: "Get up, Peter; kill and eat." 14 But Peter said, "No, Lord, because I have never eaten anything common or unclean." 15 A voice came to him again a second time: "What God has cleansed, you must not make common." 16 But this happened three times, and immediately the vessel was taken up into heaven. 17 Now while Peter was perplexed about the meaning of the vision he had seen, suddenly the men sent by Cornelius, who had asked directions to Simon's house, stood at the gate. 18 They called out and asked whether Simon, who is called Peter, was staying here. 19 While Peter was still pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Look, three men are looking for you!" 20 So get up, go downstairs, and go with them, doubting nothing, because I have sent them. 21 Then Peter went down to the men and said, "Here I am, the one you are seeking. Why have you come?" 22 They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, being testified to by the whole nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to send for you to his house and to hear words from you.” 23 So he invited them in and lodged them. But the next day, he got up and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went with him.
