Chapter 30
11 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying. 12 When you take a census of the sons of Israel for numbering them, then they shall give, each man a ransom for his soul to the LORD when numbering them, so that there shall not be a plague among them when I number them. 13 Everyone who passes over among those counted shall give this: half a shekel, according to the shekel of the sanctuary—twenty gerahs is a shekel. Half a shekel is the offering to the LORD. 14 Everyone among those who are mustered—from a son twenty years old and upward—shall give the contribution of the LORD. 15 The rich shall not give more of it, and the poor shall not give less of it than half a shekel, to give the contribution of the LORD to make atonement for your vital life forces. 16 And you shall take the silver of the atonement payments from the sons of Israel, and you shall give it for the service of the tent of meeting; and it shall be for the sons of Israel for a memorial before the LORD to atone for your lives.
