A Son Promised to Sarah

Genesis 18:1-15

Chapter 18
1 And the LORD appeared to him at the oaks of Mamre, as he was sitting at the entrance of the tent in the heat of the day. 2 And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. And when he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them and bowed to the ground. 3 And he said, "Lord, if I have found favor in your eyes, do not pass by your servant." 4 Please take a little water, wash your feet, and rest under the tree. 5 "And let me take a piece of bread and refresh your heart. Afterward you shall pass on, for therefore you have passed by your servant." And they said, "Yes, do as you have said." 6 And Abraham hurried to the tent to Sarah and said, "Hurry! Three measures of fine flour—knead it and make cakes." 7 And Abraham ran to the herd and took a tender and good calf and gave it to the youth, and he hurried to prepare it. 8 And he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and he put them before them. And he stood by them under the tree, and they ate. 9 And they said to him, "Where is Sarah your wife?" And he said, "There, in the tent." 10 And he said, "I will surely return to you at the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son." And Sarah was listening at the entrance of the tent, and it was behind him. 11 And Abraham and Sarah were old and advanced in years. It had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 12 And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have had no Eden and my lord is old." 13 And the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Shall I indeed give birth, even when I am old?'" 14 Is anything too wonderful for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, at the time of life, and Sarah will have a son. 15 And Sarah denied it, saying, "I did not laugh," for she was afraid. And he said, "No, but you did laugh."
