The Breastpiece of Judgment

Exodus 28:15-30

Chapter 28
15 You shall make a breastpiece of justice, the work of a checkerboard. Like the work of an ephod, you shall make it: gold, blue-purple, and scarlet, and crimson of worm, and twisted fine linen you shall make with it. 16 It will be square, doubled, a span in length and a span in width. 17 And you shall fill it with a setting of stones: four rows of stones. A row: adamant, pitdah, and bareqet, the first row. 18 The second row is emerald, sapphire, and jasper. 19 The third row: a shoham, its name, and an achlamah. 20 And the fourth row: tarshish, shoham, and yashpheh; gold settings they will be in their fillings. 21 And the stones shall be on the names of the sons of Israel, twelve on their names, engravings of a seal, each man on his name. They shall be for the twelve tribes. 22 You shall make on the breastpiece chainwork of border, work of twisted chain of pure gold. 23 And you shall make two gold rings on the priestly breastpiece, and you shall put the two rings on the two ends of the priestly breastpiece. 24 And you shall put the two gold chains on the two rings at the ends of the breastpiece. 25 And you shall put the two ends of the two cords on the two settings, and you shall put them on the shoulders of the ephod toward the front of it. 26 And you shall make two rings of gold, and you shall put them on the two ends of the breastpiece, on its edge which is toward the side of the ephod inside. 27 You shall make two gold rings and put them on the two shoulders of the ephod from below, opposite its face, corresponding to its coupling from above to the ephod's fastening. 28 They shall fasten the breastpiece from its rings to the ring of the ephod with a thread of blue, to be on the breastpiece of the ephod, and the breastpiece shall not slip off from the ephod. 29 Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment over his heart when he enters the holy place, as a remembrance before the LORD continually. 30 And you shall put the Urim and the Thummim into the breastpiece of judgment, and they will be over Aaron's heart when he comes before the LORD; and Aaron will bear the judgment of the sons of Israel over his heart before the LORD continually.
