Judgment on Ammon

Jeremiah 49:1-6

Chapter 49
1 The LORD says to the sons of Ammon: "Israel has no sons. If he has no heir, why does their king inherit Gad and his people dwell in its cities?" 2 Therefore look, days are coming, says the LORD, and I will cause Rabbah of the sons of Ammon to hear a shout of war. She will become a mound of desolation, and her daughters will be burned with fire. Israel will dispossess its dispossessors, says the LORD. 3 Wail, Heshbon, for Ai has been plundered. Cry out, daughters of Rabbah. Gird yourselves with sackcloth. Mourn and roam about in the enclosures, for their king will go into exile, his priests and his chiefs together. 4 Why do you boast in the valleys, your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter who trusts in her treasuries? Who will come against me? 5 Look, I am bringing fear upon you—this is the oracle of the Lord GOD of hosts—from all around you. You will be driven away, every man before his neighbor, and there will be no gatherer for the wanderer. 6 And afterward I will restore the fortunes of the sons of Ammon, says the LORD.
