Suffering and Hope in God's Steadfast Love (part 2)

Lamentations 3:45-66

3
Chapter 3
45 You set us in the midst of the peoples as refuse and an abomination. 46 All our enemies opened their mouths against us. 47 Terror and the pit have come to us as desolation and shattering. 48 Streams of water run down from my eyes because of the destruction of the daughter of my people. 49 My eyes flow and will not stop, ceaselessly. 50 until the LORD looks down from the heavens and sees. 51 My eyes afflict me for my nephesh because of all the daughters of my city. 52 My enemies hunted me like a bird without cause. 53 They have sealed my life in the pit, and they have placed a stone upon me. 54 Waters covered my head; I said, "I have been cut off." 55 I called on your name, LORD, from the depths of the pit. 56 You heard my voice. Do not hide your ear from my spirit, from my salvation. 57 You approached on the day I called you; you said, "Do not fear." 58 You have pleaded my case, O LORD; you have redeemed my life. 59 You have seen, O LORD, my presumptuous acts. Judge my justice. 60 You have seen all their vengeance against me, all their thoughts against me. 61 You have heard their reproach, LORD, all their thoughts against me. 62 The lips of my adversaries and their mutterings against me all the day. 63 Their sitting down and their rising up—they gaze at it; I am their taunting song. 64 You will return reciprocity to them, LORD, according to the deed of their hands. 65 You will give them a shield for the heart, your curse to them. 66 You will pursue them in anger and destroy them from under the heavens of the LORD.
