Chapter 27
13 But when a gentle south wind was blowing, supposing they had gained mastery of it, they raised the small foresail and sailed past Crete. 14 But shortly after, a typhonic wind called Euroaquilo beat down on it. 15 But the ship having been seized and not being able to face the wind, we saw that we were being carried along. 16 But running under a certain island called Cauda, we were able with difficulty to become masters of the boat's skiff. 17 which, having taken up, they used with helps, undergirding the ship; and fearing lest they should fall into the Syrtis, having lowered the vessel, in this way they were carried along. 18 but the next day, as they were severely storm-tossed, they began a jettisoning of the cargo. 19 And on the third day they threw the ship's vessel overboard with their own hands. 20 Neither the sun nor the stars appearing for many days, but a not-small storm lying upon us, all hope of our being saved was finally being removed. 21 When much lack of food had occurred then, Paul stood in their midst and said: "Men, it was necessary to obey me and not set sail from Crete, and to gain this damage and this loss." 22 And now I advise you to be cheerful, for there will be no loss of life among you except for the ship. 23 For an angel of the God whose I am, whom I also worship, stood by me this night. 24 saying, "Do not fear, Paul. It is necessary for you to stand before Caesar, and behold, God has granted to you all the ones sailing with you." 25 Therefore cheer up, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it has been spoken to me. 26 We must be cast onto some island.
