Chapter 10
1 Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son rejoices the father, and a foolish son is the grief of his mother. 2 The treasuries of the wicked do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. 3 The LORD will not starve the nephesh of the righteous, but he will thrust away the craving of the wicked. 4 The head makes the hand of deceit, and the diligent hand enriches. 5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son; he who sleeps in harvest is a shameful son. 6 Blessings to the head of the righteous, and the mouth of the wicked covers violence. 7 The memory of the righteous is a blessing, and the name of the wicked decays. 8 A wise-of-heart takes commandments, but a fool of lips thrusts about. 9 One who walks in integrity walks securely, and one who twists his ways will be known. 10 He who winks the eye gives sorrow, and a fool of lips causes ruin. 11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, and the mouth of the wicked covers violence. 12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions. 13 On the lips of the discerning you will find wisdom, and a rod for the back of the one lacking heart. 14 Wise ones store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool scatters closeness. 15 The wealth of the rich is the cosmic city of his strength; the ruin of the poor is their poverty. 16 The work of the righteous is to life; the produce of the wicked is to sin. 17 The path to life guards discipline, and one who abandons rebuke misleads. 18 Covering hatred with lying lips—and one who utters slander—is a fool. 19 In the abundance of words transgression does not cease, and the one who restrains his lips is wise. 20 Chosen silver is the tongue of the righteous; the heart of the wicked is like almost nothing. 21 The lips of the righteous one will shepherd many, but fools die for lack of heart. 22 The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and it adds no grief with it. 23 Laughter to the fool is doing mischief, but wisdom is to the man of understanding. 24 The dread of the wicked, it will come to him, and the desires of the righteous he will give. 25 When the storm has passed, the wicked are no more, but the righteous is the foundation of eternity. 26 Like vinegar to the teeth and like smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him. 27 The fear of the LORD adds days, and the years of the wicked will be shortened. 28 The hope of the righteous is joy, but the hope of the wicked will perish. 29 A stronghold for the blameless in the way of the LORD, and ruin for the workers of iniquity. 30 The righteous—to forever—will by no means be shaken; and the wicked will not dwell in the land. 31 The mouth of the righteous one sprouts wisdom, and the tongue of perversities will be cut off. 32 The lips of a righteous one know acceptance, and the mouth of wicked ones turns perverse.
