Samaritans' Offer Rejected and Opposition Begins

Ezra 4:1-5

4
Chapter 4
1 And the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the sons of the exile were building a temple for the LORD God of Israel. 2 They approached Zerubbabel and the heads of the fathers and said to them, "We will build with you, for like you we seek your God, and to Him we sacrifice from the days of Esar-haddon king of Assyria, the one who brought us up here." 3 Zerubbabel said to them, along with Jeshua and the rest of the heads of the fathers of Israel, "It is not for you and us to build a house for our God. We alone will build it for the LORD God of Israel, just as King Cyrus king of Persia commanded us." 4 And the people of the earth were weakening the hands of the people of Judah and frightening them from building. 5 And they hired counselors against them to frustrate their counsel all the days of Cyrus king of Persia and until the kingdom of Darius king of Persia.
