Psalm 88

Psalm 88:1-18

88
Chapter 88
A song, a psalm, for the sons of Korah, for the choirmaster, concerning Mahalath, to make low, a maskil, for Heman the Ezrahite. 1 O LORD, God of my salvation, by day I cried out, at night before you. 2 O LORD, God of my salvation, day and night I cried before you; may my prayer come before you, incline your ear to my cry. 3 For my soul is sated with evils, and my life has reached Sheol. 4 I am counted with those going down to the pit; I have been like a man who has no strength in him. 5 I am counted with the dead free ones, like the slain lying in the grave whom you no longer remember, and they are cut off from your hand. 6 You have made me descend into the lowest pit, into darknesses, into the depths. I am reckoned among the dead free ones, like the slain lying in the grave whom you no longer remember, and they from your hand are cut off. 7 You have placed me in the pit of the lower parts, in darknesses, in the deeps. You have pressed down upon me your wrath, and all your breakers have afflicted me. Selah. 8 You have removed my acquaintances from me; you have set your wrath upon me, and all your breakers have afflicted me. Selah. 9 My eyes are dim from affliction. I call to you, LORD, every day; I have spread out my hands to you. 10 Will you perform wonders for the dead? Will the shades arise and praise you? Selah. 11 Will your lovingkindness be recounted in the grave, your faithfulness in destruction? Will you do a wonder to the dead? Will the Rephaim rise to praise you? Selah. 12 Will your steadfast love be told in the grave, your faithfulness in Abaddon? 13 But as for me, to you, LORD, I cry for help, and in the morning my prayer comes before you. 14 Why, LORD, do you reject my soul? Do you hide your face from me? 15 Why, LORD, will you forsake me? Will you hide your face from me? 16 Upon me your burning angers have passed; your terrors have cut me off. 17 They surrounded me like waters all day long; they came upon me together. 18 You have removed lover and friend from me; darkness is what remains of my acquaintances.
