Chapter 25
19 And these are the generations of Isaac, son of Abraham. Abraham begot Isaac. 20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-Aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife. 21 And Isaac entreated the LORD for his wife because she was barren, and the LORD let himself be entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. 22 And the sons struggled together within her, and she said, "If it is like this, why this to me?" And she went to inquire of the LORD. 23 And the LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples will separate from your insides; and the people greater than the people will be strong, and the many will serve the younger." 24 And her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, and behold, twins were in her womb. 25 And the first came out red, all of him like a garment of hair, and they called his name Esau. 26 And after this his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau's heel, and he called his name Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when he fathered them. 27 And the boys grew up, and Esau became a man knowing hunting, a man of the field, and Jacob, a man of tents, sat in tents. 28 And Isaac loved Esau because game was in his mouth, and Rebekah loved Jacob. 29 And Jacob boiled a stew, and Esau came from the field, and he was weary. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, "Feed me, please, from the red stuff, the red stuff this—for I am weary." Therefore his name was called Edom. 31 And Jacob said, "Sell me your firstborn today." 32 And Esau said, "Look, I am going to die. What does this birthright mean to me?" 33 And Jacob said, "Swear to me today." And he swore to him, and he sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and got up and went away. And Esau despised the birthright.
