Chapter 2
1 A man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi. 2 The woman conceived and bore a son. She saw that he was good, and she hid him three months. 3 She could no longer hide him, so she took an ark of papyrus for him, smeared it with bitumen and pitch, put the child in it, and placed it among the reeds at the river's edge. 4 His sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him. 5 Pharaoh's daughter went down to bathe in the Nile, and her maidservants were walking alongside the Nile. She saw the ark among the reeds, and she sent her maidservant and she took it. 6 She opened it and saw the child. And behold, he was a young child crying. She had compassion on him and said, “This one is from the children of the Hebrews.” 7 His sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, “Shall I go and call a nursing woman from the Hebrew women for you, so she will nurse the child for you?” 8 Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go!" The young woman went and called the child's mother. 9 Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go, nurse this child for me, and I will give you your wages." The woman took the child and nursed him. 10 The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter. He became to her as a son, and she called his name Moses. She said, “Because from the waters I drew him out.”
