Balaam’s Third Oracle

Numbers 23:27-24:14

Chapter 23
27 And Balak said to Balaam, "Go now. I will take you to another place. Perhaps it will be right in the eyes of the Gods, and he will curse it for me from there." 28 And Balak took Balaam to the head of Peor, the one overlooking the face of the Jeshimon. 29 And Balaam said to Balak, "Build for me here seven altars and prepare for me here seven bulls and seven rams." 30 And he did as Balaam had said, and he offered a bull and a ram on the altar.

Chapter 24
1 And Balaam saw that it was good in the eyes of the LORD to bless Israel, and he did not go as at other times to meet the Serpents, and he set his face toward the wilderness. 2 And Balaam lifted his eyes and saw Israel dwelling according to its tribes, and the Spirit of God came upon him. 3 And he lifted up his mashal and said: Declaration of Balaam son of Beor, and declaration of the man shut of eye. 4 Oracle of the one who hears the words of God, who beholds a vision of the LORD. He sees—he falls, with eyes uncovered. 5 How good are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel! 6 Like streams they stretch out, like gardens by a river, like tents planted by the LORD, like cedars by waters. 7 Water will flow from his buckets, and his Seed in many waters. And he will exalt his king above Agag, and his kingdom will be lifted up. 8 God who brings him out from Egypt like the outburst of a wild ox—he will eat nations, his adversaries, and gnaw their bones, and crush their arrows. 9 He crouches, he lies down like a lion and like a lioness—who raises him up? Blessed is the one who blesses you, and cursed is the one who curses you. 10 And the anger of Balak burned against Balaam, and he clapped his hands. And Balak said to Balaam, "I called you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them this third time." 11 And now go to your place. I said I would honor you, but behold, the LORD has kept you from glory. 12 And Balaam said to Balak, "Did I not speak even to your messengers whom you sent to me, saying," 13 If Balak gives me his house full of silver and gold, I am not able to transgress the mouth of the LORD to do good or evil from my heart. What the LORD speaks, that I will speak. 14 And now, behold, I am going to my people. Come, I will advise you what this people will do to your people in the end of the days.
