Chapter 33
12 And Moses said to the LORD, "See, you said to me, 'Bring up this people,' and you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you said, 'I know you by name,' and also, 'You have found favor in my eyes.'" 13 And now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please make your way known to me, so that I may know you, in order that I may find favor in your eyes, and consider that this nation is your people. 14 He said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." 15 And he said to him, "If your face is not going, do not bring us up from here." 16 How then will it be known that I have found grace in your eyes, I and my people? Is it not in your going with us, so that we will be distinguished, I and my people, from all the people who are on the face of the ground? 17 And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found grace in my eyes, and I know you by name." 18 And he said, "Please show me your glory." 19 And he said, "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will have grace on whom I will have grace, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." 20 He said, "You cannot see my face, for no human can see me and live." 21 And the LORD said, "See, there is a place with me, and you shall stand on the Rock." 22 And when I pass by with my glory, I will put you in a cleft in the rock, and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 And I will remove my hand, and you will see my back, but my face shall not be seen.
