David's Final Oracle

2 Samuel 23:1-7

Chapter 23
1 These are the last words of David, the oracle of David son of Jesse, the oracle of the mighty one raised up on behalf of the anointed one, the God of Jacob, and the pleasant one of the songs of Israel. 2 The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me, and his word was on my tongue. 3 The God of Israel said to me, the word of the Rock of Israel: "He who rules over people righteously, he who rules in the fear of God." 4 And like the light of morning when the sun rises, on a morning without clouds, from the brightness after rain on the grass of the land. 5 Is not my house so with God? For he has made an everlasting covenant with me, ordered in all things and kept. For this is all my salvation and all my desire. For it will not sprout. 6 And the sons of Belial are all of them like thorns, for they will not be taken by hand. 7 And the man who touches them will be filled with iron and the wood of a spear, and with fire—they will be utterly burned.
