Rightly Handling the Message and Gentle Correction

2 Timothy 2:14-26

2
Chapter 2
14 Remind them of these things, testifying solemnly before the Lord not to engage in word-battles over nothing useful, to the destruction of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, an unashamed worker rightly handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid profane and empty talks, for they will advance further in ungodliness. 17 and their word will eat like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who concerning the truth have missed the mark, saying the resurrection has already taken place, and they overthrow the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the solid foundation of God stands firm, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness." 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also wooden and earthen ones, and some indeed for honor but some for dishonor. 21 If therefore anyone cleanses himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the master, prepared for every good work. 22 But flee youthful desires; pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and uneducated contentions, knowing that they generate battles. 24 But a slave of the Lord must not fight, but be gentle toward all, teachable, forbearing toward evil, 25 with gentleness disciplining those who oppose, lest God at some time should give them repentance leading to knowledge of the truth, 26 and they might recover sobriety from the trap of the devil, having been captured alive by him for that one's will.
