David's Prayer of Thanksgiving for God's Promise

2 Samuel 7:18-29

Chapter 7
18 Then King David came and sat before the LORD and said, "Who am I, Lord GOD? And what is my house, that you have brought me this far?" 19 And this was still small in your eyes, Lord the LORD, and you have spoken also to the house of your servant for the distant future, and this is the law of the man, Lord the LORD. 20 What more can David add to say to you? And you—you know your servant, Lord GOD. 21 For the sake of your word and according to your heart, you have done all this greatness to make it known to your servant. 22 Therefore you are great, my Lord the LORD, for there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 23 And who is like your people, like Israel, the one nation on earth whom God went to redeem as his people, to make for himself a name and to do great and awesome things for your land, before your people whom you redeemed for yourself from Egypt, nations and their gods. 24 And you have established your people Israel for yourself as your people forever, and you, LORD, have been their God. 25 And now, LORD God, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and his house, establish it as an everlasting covenant, and do as you have spoken. 26 And your name will be magnified forever, saying, "The LORD of hosts is God over Israel, and the house of your servant David will be established before you." 27 For you, LORD of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed to the ear of your servant, saying, "A house I will build for you." Therefore your servant has found his heart to pray this prayer to you. 28 And now, Lord the LORD, you are God, and your words are truth, and you have spoken this good thing to your servant. 29 And now, please be willing to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you, for you, Lord GOD, have spoken, and blessed by you, the house of your servant will be blessed forever.
