Chapter 6
1 And David gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2 And David arose and went, with all the people who were with him, from Baale-judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which had been called by the name, the LORD of hosts who sits on the cherubim over it. 3 And they mounted the Ark of God on a new cart, and it bore it from the house of Abinadab, which is on the hill. And Uzzah and his brothers, sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart. 4 And they carried it with the Ark of God from the house of Abinadab, which is on the hill, and Ahio walked before the Ark. 5 And David and all the house of Israel were playing before the LORD with all fir trees and with harps and with lyres and with tambourines and with sistrums and with cymbals. 6 And they came as far as the threshing floor of Nacon, and Uzzah reached out toward the ark of God and grasped it, for the oxen had stumbled. 7 And the anger of the LORD burned against Uzzah, and God struck him there for the cart, and he died there by the ark of God. 8 And it burned in David because the LORD had made a breach at Gaza, and he called that place Perez-uzza until this day. 9 David feared the LORD that day and said, "How can the ark of the LORD come to me?" 10 David was not willing to bring the ark of the LORD to the city of David, so he took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 11 And the ark of the covenant sat in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-Edom and all his house. 12 And it was told to King David, saying, “The LORD has blessed the house of your servant Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him because of the ark of God.” And David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of your servant Obed-Edom, to the city of David, with joy. 13 And when the bearers of the ark of the LORD had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and fatlings. 14 And David was dancing with all his might before the LORD, and David was girded with a linen ephod. 15 And David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD with a shout and with the sound of a shofar. 16 And as the ark of the LORD was entering the city of David, Michal daughter of Saul was looking out through the window, and she saw King David leaping and whirling before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart. 17 And they brought the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD and set it in its place in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it, and David offered burnt offerings before the LORD and peace offerings. 18 David finished the burnt offerings and the grain offerings and the peace offerings, and he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of Hosts. 19 And he distributed to all the people, to the entire multitude of Israel, to every man and woman, to each man a cake of bread, one, and a date cake, one, and a raisin cake, one. And all the people went, each to his house. 20 And David returned to bless his house, and Michal daughter of Saul went out to meet David and said, "How honored today is the king of Israel, who uncovered himself today before the eyes of the mothers of his servants, like the uncovering of one of the dances!" 21 And David said to Michal, “Before the LORD, who chose me from your father and from all his house to appoint me as ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel—and I danced before the LORD.” 22 And I will be despised even more than this, and I will be lowly in my own eyes, and among the maidservants whom you said I would be honored with them. 23 And Michal daughter of Saul had no child until the day of her death.
