Shepherding the Flock, Humility, and Standing Firm

1 Peter 5:1-11

5
Chapter 5
1 Therefore I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow-elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, the one who is also a partner of the glory that is about to be revealed, 2 Shepherd the flock of God among you, overseeing not under compulsion but willingly according to God, nor yet for dishonest gain but eagerly, 3 nor as domineering over the allotments but as patterns of the little flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd is manifested, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 5 Likewise, younger ones, submit to elders. But all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in the appointed time. 7 Cast all your anxiety upon him, because it matters to him concerning you. 8 Be sober; be watchful. Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, solid in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being accomplished by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who called you into his eternal glory in Christ, after a little suffering, he himself will perfect, establish, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.
