Chapter 24
1 The divisions of the sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 2 Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and they had no sons. Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests. 3 David and Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar divided them to oversee them in their serving. 4 And the sons of Eleazar were found many as chiefs of the fighting men from the sons of Ithamar, and he divided them: to the sons of Eleazar, heads of houses of fathers, sixteen, and to the sons of Ithamar, to houses of their fathers, eight. 5 He divided them by lots, one with the other, for they were chiefs of the sanctuary and chiefs of God from the sons of Eleazar and from the sons of Ithamar. 6 Shemaiah son of Nethanel the scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them down before the king and the chiefs, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the priests and the Levites. One father's house by lot for Eleazar, and one lot for Ithamar. 7 The lot came out first to Joiarib, Jedaiah the second. 8 Herem the third, to the gates the fourth. 9 Malkijah the fifth, Mijamin the sixth. 10 to Hakkoz the seventh, to Abijah the eighth. 11 to Jeshua the ninth; to Shecaniah the tenth. 12 To Eliashib the sixth, ten; to Yeqim the twelfth. 13 to Huppah the thirteenth, to Ishbaal the fourteenth. 14 to Bilgah the fifteenth, to the second the sixteenth. 15 to Shemaiah the fifteenth, to Jehezkel the eighteenth. 16 Pethahiah the ninth, Jehezkel the twentieth. 17 to Jachin the twenty-first, to Gmol the twenty-second. 18 Delijah twenty-three, Maaziah twenty-four. 19 These were their divisions for their service, to come into the house of the LORD according to their responsibility under the hand of Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.
