God’s Covenant with David (Nathan’s Oracle)

1 Chronicles 17:1-15

Chapter 17
1 And it was when David sat in his house, and David said to Nathan the prophet, "See, I am living in a house of cedars, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under curtains." 2 Nathan said to David, "Do everything that is in your heart, for God is with you." 3 That night the word of God came to Nathan, saying. 4 Go and tell my servant David, "This is what the LORD says: You shall not build me a house to dwell in." 5 For I have not sat in a house from the day that I brought up Israel until this day, but I have been from tent to tent and from tabernacle to tabernacle. 6 In all the places where I have walked with all Israel, did I ever speak a word to one of the judges of Israel whom I commanded to shepherd my people, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedars?" 7 And now you shall say to my servant David: Thus says the LORD of hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people Israel. 8 And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a name like the name of the great ones who are in the land. 9 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and plant them, and they will dwell there. They will not tremble any more, nor will the sons of injustice add to their affliction as in the former things. 10 And as for the days when I commanded judges over my people Israel, I have subdued all your enemies. And I will make a house for you; the LORD will build it for you. 11 And it will be when your days are fulfilled and you go to be with your fathers, that I will raise up your seed after you, who will be from your sons, and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He will build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. 13 I will be to him a father, and he will be to me a son, and my steadfast love I will not remove from him, as I removed it from the one who was before you. 14 I will establish him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne will be firm forever. 15 According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.
