God's Covenant with David

2 Samuel 7:1-17

Chapter 7
1 And it was, when the king sat in his house and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies all around. 2 And the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I am living in a house of cedars while the ark of God sits in the midst of curtains." 3 Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you." 4 That night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying. 5 Go and say to my servant David, "Thus says the LORD: Is it you who will build me a house for my dwelling?" 6 For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought up the sons of Israel from Egypt until this day, but I have been walking about in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7 In all the places where I have walked among all the sons of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to one of the tribes of Israel whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedars?" 8 And now, this is what you shall say to my servant David: This is what the LORD of hosts says: I have taken you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. 9 And I have been with you in all that you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you, and I have made for you a great name like the name of the great ones who are in the earth. 10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and I will plant them there. They will dwell securely, and the sons of injustice will not continue to afflict them as in the former time. 11 And from the day that I commanded judges over my people Israel, and have given you rest from all your enemies, the LORD has told you that the LORD will make a house for you. 12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your seed after you, who will come from your loins, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He will build a house for My Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to me. When he strays, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the strokes of the sons of Adam. 15 And my steadfast love will not depart from him, just as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom will be faithful until the everlasting covenant before you; your throne will be established until the everlasting covenant. 17 Nathan spoke to David according to all these words and according to all this vision.
