Charge to Timothy: Pursue Godliness and Guard the Faith

1 Timothy 6:11-21

Chapter 6

¹¹ But you, O man of God, flee these things; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. ¹² Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold of the eternal life to which you were called and confessed the good confession before many witnesses. ¹³ I charge you before God, who gives life to all things, and Christ Jesus, who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, ¹⁴ to keep the commandment spotless and blameless until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁵ which he will show at his own times, the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of those ruling as kings and Lord of those ruling as lords, ¹⁶ the only one having immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no human has seen nor is able to see; to whom be honor and eternal power forever; amen. ¹⁷ Command the rich in the present age not to be high-minded nor to hope in the uncertainty of wealth, but in God, who provides us all things richly for enjoyment, ¹⁸ to do good works, to be rich in good works, to be willing to share, sharing, ¹⁹ treasuring up for themselves a good foundation for the future, so that they may lay hold of the real life. ²⁰ O Timothy, guard the deposit, turning away from the profane and empty talks and oppositions of the falsely-named knowledge, ²¹ which some, professing it, have missed the mark concerning the faith.
