Chapter 10
9 And as he turned his shoulder to go away from Samuel, God gave him another heart, and all those signs came that day. 10 And they came there to the hill, and behold, a band of prophets coming to meet him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied in their midst. 11 And it happened that all those who knew him from yesterday and three days ago saw him prophesying with the prophets, and the people said to one another, "What is this? Is Saul also among the prophets?" 12 And a man from there answered and said, "And who is their father?" Because of this, it became a proverb: "Is Saul also among the prophets?" 13 And he finished prophesying and came to the high place. 14 And Saul said to his servant, "Where did you go?" And he said, "To seek the she-donkeys, and we saw that there were none, and we came to Samuel." 15 And David said to Saul, "Please tell me what Samuel said to you." 16 And Saul said to his uncle, "He told us plainly that the donkeys were found. But concerning the matter of the kingship, he did not tell him what Samuel said." 17 And Samuel cried out to the LORD for the people who were watching. 18 And he said to the sons of Israel, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'I brought Israel up from Egypt, and I delivered you from the hand of Egypt and from the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you.'" 19 And today you have rejected your God who saves you from all your evils and your distresses, and you said to him, "No—a king! Set one over us." Now stand before the LORD for your tribes and for your thousands. 20 And Samuel brought the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken. 21 And he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its clans, and the clan of the Matrites was taken, and Saul son of Kish was taken, but when they sought him, he was not found. 22 And they asked the LORD again, "Is the man still here—the one who is coming?" And the LORD said, "Look, he is hidden among the supplies." 23 And they ran and took him from there, and he stationed himself in the midst of the people, and he was taller than all the people from his shoulder and upward. 24 And Samuel said to all the people, "Do you see the one whom the LORD has chosen? For there is no one like him among all the people." And all the people shouted and said, "Long live the king!" 25 And Samuel spoke to the people the justice of the Betrothed and wrote it in the book and set it before the LORD. And Samuel sent away all the people, each man to his house. 26 And Saul also went to his house in Gibeah, and the valiant men whose hearts God had touched went with him. 27 And the sons of Belial said, "What—will this one save us?" And he despised him. And they did not bring him an offering. And he was as one being silent.
