The attested uses chiefly describe a man marrying, a woman’s married status, or a husband-wife relationship in legal, household, and figurative clauses. Several passages extend marital language to the LORD’s relation to his people or land; Isaiah 26:13 instead places the form in a clause about other lords ruling.

In Deuteronomy 21:13, the sequential-perfect form follows the instruction that a man may go in to the captive woman, after which the APB renders that she becomes his wife. Passive participles in Genesis 20:3 and Deuteronomy 22:22 describe women within an existing marriage, while Deuteronomy 24:1 and Malachi 2:11 place perfect forms in clauses about taking and marrying a woman.

In Isaiah 54:5, the active participle occurs in the clause that the APB renders, "For your Maker is your husband." Isaiah 62:4 and Isaiah 62:5 use a passive participle and imperfect forms in statements that the land will be married and in comparisons of a young man and bridegroom; Jeremiah 3:14 and Jeremiah 31:32 place first-person perfect forms in the LORD's statements about having married or been a husband to the people.

Ruling by other lords · rare
In Isaiah 26:13, a Qal perfect plural form appears in the address to the LORD concerning "other lords besides you"; the APB renders the clause, "other lords besides you have ruled over us." This is the only supplied verse where the clause concerns rule rather than a marital relation.
In the Anselm Project Bible: Across these verses, the APB uses "marry," "married," "husband," and "wife" in marital clauses, and "ruled over us" in Isaiah 26:13. Because the APB is a whole-verse translation, these English expressions are not treated as word-by-word renderings.
