Chapter 35
1Then Elihu answered and said.
2Have you devised this for justice? You said, My righteousness is from God.
3For you say, What is useful to you? What gain do I obtain from my sin?
4I will answer you, and your friends with you.
5Look to heaven and see, and behold the clouds that are high above you.
6If you sin, what do you accomplish against him, and if your transgressions are many, what do you do to him?
7If you are justified, what do you give to him, or what does he take from your hand?
8Your wickedness belongs to a man like you, and your righteousness belongs to a son of man.
9From the abundance of oppressions they cry out; they cry from the arm of many.
10And they do not say, Where is God my maker who gives songs in the night?
11He teaches us from the animals of the land, and from the bird of the heavens he makes us wise.
12There they cry, yet he does not answer because of the pride of the bad.
13Surely God does not hear vanity, and the Almighty does not see her.
14Moreover, you say he does not see us; judgment is before him, and you tremble before him.
15And now, because he does not reckon his anger as anything and does not know in much folly.
16And Job opens his mouth in vanity; without knowledge he multiplies speeches.
Chapter 36
1Then Elihu added and said.
2Bear with me a little, and I will explain to you, for there are still speeches for God.
3I lift my knowledge to what is distant, and to my working I give righteousness.
4For truly my speech is not deception; unblemished knowledges are with you.
5Behold, God is mighty and does not reject; mighty is the strength of heart.
6He does not let the wicked live, and he gives justice to the afflicted.
7He does not withdraw his eye from the righteous, and with kings on the throne he seats them forever, and they are exalted.
8And if they are bound in fetters, they are captured in the cords of affliction.
9And he declares to them their work and their transgressions, for they have prevailed.
10And he uncovers their ear to discipline and says that they should return from wickedness.
11If they hear and serve, they complete their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness.
12But if they do not hear, they pass away by a missile and die without knowledge.
13And the profane of heart set anger; they do not cry out, for he has bound them.
14Their soul dies in youth, and their life among male cult prostitutes.
15He rescues the afflicted in his affliction and uncovers their ear in oppression.
16Moreover, he draws you out of the mouth of distress; breadth is not a constraint beneath it, and what is set on your table is full of fatness.
17And the judgment of the wicked you have filled; judgment and justice they grasp.
18Beware lest wrath entice you into scoffing, and do not let the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.
19Will your cry for help avail to keep you from distress, or all the force of your strength?
20Do not long for the night, when peoples are cut off in their place.
21Guard yourself; do not turn to wickedness, for you have chosen this from affliction.
22Behold, God exalts in his strength; who is like him to teach?
23Who has appointed his way for him, and who has said, You have worked injustice?
24Remember that his work is great, which men sing.
