Elihu's Intervention: Rebuke and Praise of God's Majesty (part 2)

Job 33:23-34:33
23If there is upon him one messenger from a thousand to tell a man his uprightness, 24and shows him favor and says, 'Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom.' 25His flesh is made fresh from youth; he returns to the days of his youth. 26He prays to God, and he accepts him; he sees his face with a shout, and he restores to the human his righteousness. 27He looks upon men and says, I have sinned, and I have twisted what is upright, and it was not fitting for me. 28He has ransomed his soul from passing into the pit, and his life will see the light. 29Look, God works all these things two or three times with a great man, 30to bring his soul back from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living. 31Listen, Job; hear me; be quiet, and I will speak. 32If you have words, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify you. 33If not, listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.
Chapter 34
1Then Elihu answered and said, 2Hear my words, you wise men, and understand; listen to me. 3For the ear tests words, and the palate tastes food. 4Let us choose justice for ourselves; let us discern among ourselves what is good. 5For Job has said, I am righteous, and God has removed my justice. 6Concerning my justice I lie; my arrow is incurable without transgression. 7Who is a great man like Job, who drinks derision like water, 8who keeps company with evildoers and walks with wicked men? 9For he has said, "It does not profit a man to take delight in God." 10Therefore, you men of understanding, hear me; far be it from God to do wickedness, and from the Almighty to do injustice. 11For he repays a man according to his work, and according to a man's way he brings it upon him. 12Surely God will not do wickedly, and the Almighty will not pervert justice. 13Who has reckoned upon the land, and who has set the whole world? 14If he sets his heart upon it, his spirit and his breath he gathers to himself, 15all flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust. 16If you have understanding, hear this; listen to the voice of my words. 17Will one who hates justice govern, or will you condemn the righteous and mighty one? 18Will you say to a king, Worthless one, or to nobles, Wicked? 19He does not show partiality to princes, nor regard the rich more than the poor, for they are all the work of his hands. 20In a moment they die, and at the middle of the night the people are shaken and pass away, and the mighty are removed without a hand. 21For his eyes are on the ways of man, and he sees all his steps. 22There is no darkness or deep shadow where evildoers may hide. 23For he has not appointed a time for man to come before God in judgment. 24He shatters the mighty without inquiry and sets others in their place. 25Therefore he takes note of their deeds; he overturns them in the night and crushes them. 26He slaps them under the wicked in the place of those who see. 27Because they turned aside from following him and did not consider any of his ways, 28he hears the cry of the poor and the cry of the afflicted. 29When he is silent, who can condemn him? When he hides his face, who can see him, whether on nation or man alike? 30He prevents a godless man from reigning, lest the people be ensnared. 31Has anyone said to God, I have borne punishment; I will not offend again? 32Teach me what I do not see; if I have done wrong, I will not do so again. 33Should he repay it according to your judgment, because you have rejected it? For you must choose, not I; so declare what you know.
