sa.rid denotes one who remains alive or escapes when others are struck down or destroyed.

The same noun appears positively in Joshua 10:20, where the APB renders the plural as "the survivors among them" who escaped to fortified cities, and in Jeremiah 31:2 it describes people who "survived the sword."
