The term designates individual people and groups recognized in connection with prophetic speech or messages: named figures receive or convey the word of the LORD, while other occurrences describe companies who are prophesying or speaking before rulers. The same designation is also used for prophets identified with the LORD and for groups identified with Baal or Asherah.
