The absolute noun appears alongside wisdom and understanding in descriptions of skilled work and instruction: in Exodus 31:3 the APB renders a person as filled for “all work,” and in Ecclesiastes 12:9 it renders the preacher as teaching the people. It also marks the informed basis for conduct and speech: Proverbs 13:16 contrasts acting with it and spreading folly, while Job 34:35 judges Job's speech as not being with it.

In construct expressions, the term is directed toward God or God's ways. Hosea 4:1 names its absence “of God” in the land, Hosea 6:6 places it above burnt offerings, and Job 21:14 speaks of refusing delight in the knowledge of God's ways.
